Election of the Superior General
26th July 2011
To our surprise, it has been possible to hold today the
election of the Superior General which was foreseen for
tomorrow.
All along the day, prayer and discernment have prepared
the capitulants to elect the new Superior General of the
Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa :

Sister Carmen Sammut
During a ritual following the election,
the out-going Superior General, Sister Piluca Benavente
addressed herself to Carmen as follows:
« Carmen,
In my name and in the name of all the sisters of the
Congregation, I want to assure you of our trust and our
support at this moment of your election as Superior General.
We believe in your leadership capacity because, all along
the years, we have benefited from your qualities of membership.
Today, you have been set apart, consecrated for an passionate
Mission. We rely on you so that, during the coming six
years, the Congregation may decidedly go forward on the
way that the Chapter will have shown.
May the God of our Ancestors, the God of the Covenant,
the One who has shared his Spirit with the prophets of
all times and anointed Jesus, his Servant, shower His
Spirit upon you.
And now, with this scented oil, olive oil from the Mediterranean
which is, at the same time, your cradle and your host
land, I am going to anoint your head, your hands, your
heart and your feet.
.
May the God of History give you His Spirit.
May the God of Jesus give you His Spirit.
May the God of Mother Salome give you His Spirit.
May the God of Cardinal Lavigerie give you His Spirit.
May the God of Africa give you His Spirit.
May the God who has hired us for a reconciled Creation give
you His Spirit.
Shukran ya ukhti
Al hamdou lilah
Amin. »
